His creativity stymied by the pandemic, and not wanting to write about such a topic, it’s taken Sam Beam five years to craft his next Iron & Wine album (seven in theory, as his last outing was the Calexico collaboration Years To Burn in 2019). Fortunately, Light Verse is one of Beam’s most uplifting and joyful records so far, an exercise in catharsis following a long dark night of the soul, and it features Fiona Apple on the duet ‘All In Good Time’.
