To one of us Pontiak are the best american hard rock /psych band going today. This album is not as accessible as Sun on Sun, it’s tougher, leaner and more brutal. They still have that backwoods misanthrope/mystic feel, but the riffs are a little more jagged here. The lyrics are certainly evolving, with instant brain bending images (reminding me of Thom Yorke’s skill) and crackling murmurs buried under a thick reverbed drone riff or keeping the throbbing bass company in the low ranges. If you haven’t listened to these guys yet, then you owe it to yourself to take a bite.
