One of us says: In recent years Will Oldham has been making albums that grow on you. Looking back a few years (and a few beards) ‘I See a Darkness’ was instantly iconic and ‘Master and Everyone’ was so open and fragile that it yielded everything on first listen, despite being an enduring album. Both of these albums are available from Jam and are well worth checking out. But so is his latest, ‘Beware’. At first I was wary of it, I didn’t like it in fact. But on this sunny day, with only a few people walking by on the cobbles I’m suddenly warming to it. Yes the lyrics are a little more annoyingly obtuse, but the loose production on a band of avant-music legends (playing ramshackle electric country) is really soothing.
