  • Continues where the duo’s last collaborative lp left off, with an increased cohesion and focus imbuing the compositions and improvisations. Instantly recognizable as an authentic and unique entry in the Psych Folk cannon, not to be confused with the fashionable (and often disposable) “Freak Folk” of recent years. Espvall is best known for her cello work in Espers, but here she plays Renaissance Harp and guitar too. Masaki Batoh is an underground guitar legend of sorts, having played for many years in the Tokyo based group Ghost (which was the location for these recordings).

This is music that takes place where the winds of the Old World re-convene, many ancient scents are bound up in this record but it could neither be called fusion or traditional. Cascading instrumental pieces recall the spirit of Elizabethan folk dances with the use of Hurdy Gurdy and Crum Horn, while elsewhere they cover Silvio Rodriguez and Finnish traditional folk songs, hard to classify but full of depth.
