Tinariwen are a group of musicians that performed acoustic tunes for parties and weddings before hearing some honest-to-god rock music and deciding it was time to get the Led out (or at least go electric). Their records are politically charged and often ferocious, commenting on the state of Mali, though they also show off a seamless and gorgeous interplay of guitar riffing and ever-grooving rhythms.
