Yo La Tengo records had been crunchy full band affairs somewhere between Neil Young and the Feelies but here they stripped down for the first time replacing bass with double bass and drafting in expert guitarist Dave Schramm to run through some of their favourite songs and some originals. The result is superb as they delve deep into the musical past re-inventing songs by the likes of the Kinks, John Cale and the Flaming Groovies.
