Though every Midlake album is some shade of Fleetwood Mac or other, ‘The Trials of Van Occupanther’ is probably their most Fleetwood Mac. That's not to say it is not varied - opener 'Roscoe' recalls the '80s Fleetwood Mac of 'Mirage' and 'Tango In the Night' whilst the title track delves back towards the lesser known folkier Bob Welsh era of Fleetwood Mac. Gentle mocking aside though, tracks like 'Young Bride' see the band reach ever dizzying new heights of folk-rock perfection.
