Mingus Three’ is a comparative rarity in Charles Mingus’s dazzling catalogue of work, being one of only two albums that the jazz bassist made in the context of a trio. Released in 1957 and consisting of two originals, four standards and an elongated band jam, Mingus recorded this treasure with pianist Hampton Hawes and drummer Dannie Richmond.
