Restricted to his home during the lockdown, John Darnielle channelled his concomitant frustrations into The Mountain Goats’s twentieth studio album. Telling of revenge and futility - familiar JD themes indeed - ‘Bleed Out’ is a bit of a throwback to the boombox-recorded sound of very early MGs albums from the Nineties, with Bully’s Alicia Bognanno brought in as a co-producer to add some polish to the recordings.
